'SmartWater' theft deterrent

'SmartWater', a theft deterrent which uses forensic technology to protect home and possessions is now available to residents of Theddingworth. SmartWater Property Coding is a colourless liquid solution that is dabbed onto surfaces of valuables. Each bottle contains a unique forensic code, similar to DNA, which is linked to your address. Once dry SmartWater is virtually impossible to remove, and will glow under ultraviolet light, allowing the Police to identify the true owner of the property. 95 percent of UK police forces are using SmartWater as part of their crime reduction programmes, and it has a 100 percent conviction rate where it has been used as evidence in Court. SmartWater is now available to residents of Theddingworth at a cost of £15 per kit. Please contact PC 1261 Andy Cooper (0116 2485675 (1261 when prompted), or email Andrew.cooper1261@leicestershire.pnn.police.uk)

Fire at Pebble Hall Farm

The Environment Agency has notified the Council that the fire at Pebble Hall Farm has now finally been extinguished. Their email reads as follows:
'In respect of the ongoing fire at Theddingworth composting site, I take great pleasure in informing the Parish Council, and all residents who have been affected by the fire, that it is eventually out. Having visited the site on a regular basis since the arson occurred, I understand a little bit what you have had to put up with over the last six months. On behalf of the Environment Agency, and the Clarke family who operate the site, I would like to pass on our thanks for the co-operation and tolerance that you have all displayed, and our apologies for any functions that may have been blighted by the odour. The fire commenced as a result of an arson attack on the site. This caused the Clarke family to work hard to manage the ensuing controlled burn of the compost, which was necessary to keep the emissions down to a minimum for every weekend that the fire persisted. Together with the Clarke family, the Environment Agency has reviewed the circumstances of the fire, and has recommended a series of improvements to the day-to-day working practices of the site, and agreed a schedule of improvements to be made to its infrastructure. Many of these have already been implemented, and the remaining few are to be put in place over the next two or three months. These improvements will hopefully prevent a small site fire developing into another major fire such as the one which has just occurred.

I apologise for my mistake in not initially involving the Parish Council in the 'information loop', but having been made aware of this omission, I have ensured that I had regular contact with your chairman, Mr Alan Jones. Should a similar event occur again, I promise to manage this better. I sincerely hope, however, that it will not be necessary for me to contact yourselves again over such an event, but you are more than welcome to contact me if you wish to discuss this matter, or indeed, any other matter which falls within the remit of the Environment Agency.' « Less
